FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will this definately count for my DofE Award?

Yes. We are an official Approved Activity Provider (AAP). Once you finish, your tutor writes and submits your Assessor's Report directly to your eDofE account.

Do I need prior cooking experience?

None at all. We start with the total basics and guide-you-step-by-step. If you already know how to cook, our 40+ varied recipes let you test advance techniques.

Do I have to start cooking on a set date?

No. Our courses are flexible allowing you to begin cooking on a day that suits your busy life.

How much time does it take each week?

We recommend setting aside around one hour each week for cooking and learning. The course is designed to fit around school, family life and other commitments, so students can work through it at home,

What if I have exams, holidays or get sick?

No stress. Our courses are 100% flexible. If you miss a week for GCSE's/A-Levels or a family trip, simply double up the following week or extend your finish date. You never lose progress.

Can I swap a recipe?

Yes. Our cooking programme is flexible and gives you over 40 different dishes to choose from. If nothing takes your fancy, we are happy to sign off an alternative as long as it enables you to practice similar cooking skills and techniques.

Does a parent need to supervise?

This depends on the young person's age, experience and the recipe they're making. Parents should use their own judgement about appropriate supervision, particularly when a young person is using knives, hobs or ovens. The aim is to help young people become increasingly confident and independent in the kitchen, rather than having a parent cook for them.

How do I show I've completed the work?

Students work through the course and record their progress using The KC Classroom feedback form. They also submit a photo of their completed recipe each week, allowing us to provide feedback on their cooking. At the end of the course, we provide a report and certificate of completion.

What happens if I don't have an ingredient?

Don't let one missing ingredient stop you cooking! Where possible, our recipes include guidance and alternatives. Students can also use their own judgement to make suitable substitutions and develop their problem-solving skills. If they're unsure they can contact us for guidence.
